Is That You Darling?

It's been a long time!

Wow - this is strange! I haven't posted on here in nearly three years!

I have a new blog now, Lady Writer, over at Wordpress. I don't really know what made me move, but I did, and I never mentioned it on here!

I would never delete this blog, for a number of reasons. One is that it's a bit like a diary, and I like going back and reading what I wrote! The other is that maybe, one day, I might pick things up again over here (though I'd have to change the URL), so it's very much on hold right now! Come and check me out on Wordpress though!

Season Finale

Season Finale is the sixth and last album by Hèctor and Tito.

I wanted to post about the wonderfulness that is Grey's Anatomy, and realised that I have already done so once, so I had to pick a new title, because I already used Gray's Anatomy once. Anyway, so it was the season finale of Season 5 of Grey's last week, and I finished watching it last night. It was amazing! And beware, anyone that reads further than this, cos there be spoilers.

I guessed that Izzy was going to die, after she got her memory back, it was all a little too good to be true. As Anna has pointed out, she hasn't actually died, they didn't make it clear if she was going to survive, because she was flatlining at the end. But I think she is dead. As well as George. I can't believe that about George. I had no clue that it was him, except when it became obvious to Meredith, I suddenly realised that of course it was him. It was such a clever way to end it. And I love it that I had no idea that it was going to happen!

I love it that I am able to get up to date with these U.S television shows and watch them almost as they air in the U.S. It reduces the chance of spoilers greatly, for which I am very grateful, because I hate it if I accidentally find out what is going to happen. The only other show that I am up to date with is Criminal Minds, and I am even lagging a bit behind with that - I have two episodes still to watch, and I think the season finale of that is this week. Then I can spend the summer watching Bones and NCIS and the CSIs and countless other things that are on my list. Not that my life revolves around television, of course!

I am meant to be revising right now, I have my last exam tomorrow, and then I am free!

Bones

The bones are a musical instrument (more specifically, a folk instrument) which, at the simplest, consists of a pair of animal bones, or pieces of wood or a similar material. (Wikipedia)

So the world has gone swine-flu crazy. I know that people have died (a baby in the U.S. died this morning - the first fatality outside of Mexico so far), but I wish people would stop panicking about it. Or more specifically, I wish the media would stop trying to get everyone to panic. There is nothing to be done, if you get it, you get it. As Dr Hillary said, the normal winter flu can kill, and people don't panic about that. Hypochondriacs the world over are in heaven right now.

I have been watching Bones lots lately. I really want to get to the end of Season 1, but it seems to be taking ages! Once I have completed the first season, I might move on to Brothers and Sisters Sason 2, or House Season 5. As you can tell, my life is so interesting!

I drew an amazing picture last night, to send to Anna. I have scanned a copy, but I won't put it on here un
til I have sent it to her, or it will ruin it! Even though I am not sure how regularly she reads my blog. I am not sure that anyone reads my blog at all!

Ashes to Ashes is back. And it's awesome. Loving Gene Hunt, as ever, he has some of
the best lines ever. E.g:

Alex: You're playing with them?
Gene: No, that's just the way I'm standing.

A Streetcar Named Marge

"A Streetcar Named Marge" is the second episode of The Simpsons' fourth season. It first aired on the Fox network in the United States on October 1, 1992. In the episode, Marge wins the role of Blanche DuBois in a musical version of Tennessee Williams' A Streetcar Named Desire. Homer is apathetic to his wife's acting pursuits, and Marge beings to see parallels between him and Stanley Kowalski, the play's boorish lead male character. The episode contains a subplot in which Maggie Simpson attempts to retrieve her pacifier from a strict daycare attendant.

I am writing this blog to try and stave off the boredom and impending doom I am feeling at having to write an essay that is due tomorrow, that I am only 12.5% of the way through. Needless to say, it's about A Streetcar Named Desire, and Death of a Salesman, and I am really struggling! I have a good plan, it's just getting it all down on paper! And both plays are so depressing, I am tired of reading about rape, suicide and mental illness.

Also, because I am spectacularly unorganised, I have three more essays due next week that I haven't done yet. Grr. I hate myself for leaving everything until the last minute.

PL Travers

Pamela Lyndon Travers OBE (9 August 1899 - 23 April 1996) was an Australian novelist, actress and journalist , popularly remembered for her series of children's novels about mystical nanny Mary Poppins. (Wikipedia)

I thought it was about time I wrote another blog, because I now know of two more people that are reading my blog. So that takes my readership up to about 5, so I feel I owe it to you all to update more regularly about my largely uninteresting life.

I am currently watching Mary Poppins with Daniela, hence the title of this entry. Daniela has never watched it all the way through, and seeing as I love it, and used to watch it every day before I started school, I thought she just had to see it! The DVD keeps skipping though, which is so
incredibly annoying. My favourite bit is when they go on the roof and sing Step in Time. I don't like the bit on the ceiling, because I don't like Uncle Albert very much.

It's taken me so long to write this post that the film is almost over! I should have spent my time tonight doing my essay or sorting out my Connecticut application, but I am the ultimate procrastinator, and therefore and putting them off to tomorrow.

On Thur
sday night I went to see Oliver! in London, with Rowan Atkinson playing Fagin. It was so brilliant! Rowan was amazing, the best Fagin I've ever seen. I thought that I was going to see Hugh Laurie there, because I thought that he would go and see Rowan, because they are old friends. Alas, he was not. But that did not detract from how good it was! It wasn't Jodie playing Nancy either, but I wasn't worried, because the girl who did play her was one of the final ten Nancies, and I really liked her. She was very good. And the boy who played the Artful Dodger was ever so good too. We saw Lawrence as Oliver, I was hoping to see Gwion cos I wanted to see how his Welsh accent was worked in, but Lawrence was very good too.

Last night we went out for Richard's birthday, it was Disney/Superheroes Flirt at uni, so we all got dressed up and went out. I dressed as Minnie Mouse, I borrowed Abbie's dress and ears, and thought I looked good if I do say so myself! We all looked good though, Daniela went as Wonder Woman, Hannah as Cruella De Vil, Samm as the Mad Hatter, and Richard as Woody. Anna and Rob came as well, Anna was Batgirl and Rob was a very convincing Jack Sparrow. It was a good night, even though the music in Subzero was pretty rubbish. I like the cheesy tunes, but this was all hardcore dance stuff.

I also like the end of Mary Poppins. It used to make me sad, because I didn't like the fact that Mary left. It was the same with Pete's Dragon, I didn't like it that Elliot left. Obviously as a grown up I recognise that they are both there to help the children through their difficulties, and then they have to go off and help someone else. In Nanny McPhee, which has a similar moral to it, she says "There is something you should understand about the way I work. When you need me but do not want me, then I must stay. When you want me but no longer need me, then I have to go." I like that film too, even if Emma Thompson looks disgusting in the beginning.

The film has ended, and so I must depart. I will be back soon, hopefully.

Inauguration

An inauguration is a formal ceremony to mark the beginning of a leader's rule. An example is the ceremony in which the president of the United States officially takes the oath of office. (Wikipedia)

Today, Barack Hussein Obama became the 44th President of the United States of America. It was quite a spectacle. I quite enjoyed his speech, he made all the right noises, and it will be interesting to see how he fares. I also feel slightly sad that Bush has gone. I know that ultimately he was a bit rubbish, he did a lot wrong and a lot of people cannot wait to see the back of him, but it still had that 'end of an era' type feel to it.

Plus, I think I might be a little bit in love with Obama. He's just very good looking (even if he does have slightly sticky-out ears).

It was not as sad as the end of the Bartlet administration. That was truly tear jerking. I am re-watching The West Wing from start to finish, I am on Season 2. And of course, I am absolutely loving it again!

Robert Frost

Robert Lee Frost (March 26, 1874 - January 29, 1963) was an American poet. He is highly regarded for his realistic depictions of rural life and his command of American colloquial speech. (Wikipedia)

I am having a bit of a poetry moment. I came home from university today, and having not been in my bedroom for some time, like to have a bit of a poke around and see what treasures I can rediscover. I just found some books (I have a gazillion in this room), more specifically poetry books, from when I went through a phase of buying them. I found one called Poems of the Great War, which is obviously linked to my last blog post, and then I was thinking about other poems that I like, and I remembered one that we did in class recently by Robert Frost:

The Road Not Taken

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

It speaks volumes to me, especially 'knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back.' I just love that idea, that we make decisions and think that if it doesn't work out, we can come back, and try again; but that the truth is we can probably never come back and try again, because the decision we made in the first place has altered our path. I love it.

I will be printing a copy of this poem and putting it on my wall. I am also going to start a journal of my favourite poems.

Remembrance Day

Rembembrance Day - also known as Poppy Day, Armistice Day (the event it commemorates) or Veterans Day - is a day to commemorate the sacrifices of members of the armed forces and of civilians in times of war, specifically since the First World War.

Today is 11th November, 2008. It's 90 years since the end of World War I. I watched the service at the cenotaph on the television this morning, and heard a poem being read that I really liked, so thought that I would post it on here, and then realised that there are two other WWI poems that I particularly like, so I am going to post them all.

The first one, the one that was read this morning is Aftermath by Siegfried Sassoon.

Have you forgotten yet? ...
For the world's events have rumbled on since those gagged days,
Like traffic checked while at the crossing of city-ways:
And the haunted gap in your mind has filled with thoughts that flow
Like clouds in the lit heaven of life; and you're a man reprieved to go,
Taking your peaceful share of Time, with joy to spare.
But the past is just the same - and War's a bloody game ...
Have you forgotten yet? ...
Look down, and swear by the slain of the War that you'll never forget.

Do you remember the dark months you held the sector at Mametz -
The nights you watched and wired and dug and piled sandbags on parapets?
Do you remember the rats; and the stench
of corpses rotting in front of the front-line trench -
And dawn coming, dirty-white, and chill with a hopeless rain?
Do you ever stop and ask, "Is it all going to happen again?"

Do you remember the hour of din before the attack -
And the anger, the blind compassion that seized and shook you
As you peered at the doomed and haggard faces of your men?
Do you remember the stretcher-cases lurching back
With dying eyes and lolling heads - those ashen-grey
Masks of the lads who once were keen and kind and gay?

Have you forgotten yet? ...
Look up, and swear by the green of the spring that you'll never forget.

Another one that I love is one that I saw inscribed on the wall of a building at the University of Toronto when I visited in September. I have discovered today that the poet - John McCrae - studied at the University. The poem is In Flanders Fields.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

And finally, the last one is a poem that I studied at GCSE. It's called Anthem for Doomed Youth and is by Wilfred Owen.

What passing-bells for these who die as cattle?
Only the monstrous anger of the guns.
Only the stuttering rifles' rapid rattle
Can patter out their hasty orisons.
No mockeries for them; no prayers nor bells,
Nor any voice of mourning save the choirs, -
The shrill, demented choirs of wailing shells;
And bugles calling for them from sad shires.

What candles may be held to speed them all?
Not in the hands of boys, but in their eyes
Shall shine the holy glimmers of good-byes.
The pallor of girls' brows shall be their pall;
Their flowers the tenderness of patient minds,
And each slow dusk a drawing-down of blinds

Barack

Barack, pronounced "BUH-ruhtsk", is a type of Hungarian brandy (Palinka) made of (or flavoured with) apricots.

And so it has happened: Barack Obama is to become the 44th President of the United States of America. I am pleased to say that I watched the results unfold, in Top Bar at the University of Essex, and have to say that I am pleased as punch with the result. Not necessarily because of his political affiliation, I have never really been one for politics in that sense, because I do not know where I stand on the political spectrum, be it left, right or middle. I think it's a momentous occasion, and I think it's important for America that they have finally been able to elect a black president. In my sociology classes last year we talked a lot about racism and how it seems to be ingrained in the US, but that people often forget that the US is a young country, and still has much to learn. To know that a country that practiced segregation 40 something years ago has had the balls to elect a black man to run their country is something I think they should be proud of. Obviously there are a lot of Americans who didn't want Obama as their leader, and I am sure we will hear a lot from those people over the next four years. But tonight I think they can celebrate.

I am just about to watch his victory speech, as soon as I can get my rubbish television to work!

Toronto

Toronto was a Canadian rock band from the late seventies and early eighties who have been compared to Heart and Pat Benetar.

This is just a quick post to say that I had the most amazing time on holiday in Canada. I am having a really hard time dealing with being back, aside from the fact that I wanted to see all the people that I love very much again, and I don't want to spend long extended periods of time away from them. I can barely bring myself to mention the holiday, because of the feelings that it incites in me! A general longing for all things Canadian, and a monstrous urge to jump on the next plane and spend another couple of weeks with Ma Cortese!

Fly Me To The Moon

"Fly Me to the Moon" is a pop standard song written by Bart Howard in 1954.

I realised today that I last posted here on 13th July, which is almost two months ago. I feel bad that I have neglected my readers in such a haphazard way, and must immediately apologise for this.

Of course, my readership is limited to three people, at least that I know of. I learnt recently of an additional person who reads this, other than Anna and Vicky, and must say that I was pleasantly surprised! Although now I feel a certain amount of pressure to perform! With Anna and V I know that they find most of what I say interesting, but I am fairly sure that is not the case with anyone else!

I am writing this blog without a title, as I can't think of one. I was going to have one that related to a wedding, because I recently attended a very important one (more on that shortly), but I couldn't think of anything good enough for a title. I am silly enough to want a title that refers to the subject matter of the post without being too explicit, I prefer for it to be a little cryptic. I also considered some sort of ABBA reference, as I am slightly obsessed at the moment with all things ABBA, having seen Mamma Mia! twice in recent weeks. But I couldn't think of anything cryptic enough - every song title in Wikipedia seems to refer directly to the song and not to another subject. Although...I may have just had a thought. We'll see. OK, so I have just thought of one, completely unrelated to ABBA.

So, the wedding. My brother Matthew married his fiancée Kelly just over 2 weeks ago. The wedding took place in Leicestershire, which is where Kelly is from, and it was the most amazing day. I was a bridesmaid, I wore a turquoise dress from Debenhams, and it was a lovely dress (if a little low cut). And their first dance was to 'Fly Me to the Moon' (Hence the blog title). Kelly looked amazing, and I cried throughout most of the ceremony (as I tend to do at weddings). It was really a lovely day, and I wish we could do it again! But, we can't! I can't help feeling, although it hasn't actually been said, that there is a sense of 'Jane's next' on the wedding front. Needless to say that this isn't going to happen any time soon! Actually I think Abbie is likely to beat me down the aisle! I do keep thinking about potential themes for my hen night though. My current favourite is 1970s/ABBA...

...Which segues quite nicely into my next topic for discussion - Mamma Mia. I went to see it for the second time last night, and I love it! I would probably go and watch it again! The storyline is good, although somewhat predictable, but the way they fit the music into the film is brilliant. There wasn't a song used that I didn't enjoy, even though I didn't know all of them. I put Kim's ABBA Gold CD onto my iPod as soon as possible, and then my wonderful boyfriend bought me the film soundtrack, which I love.

So, this blog turned out a lot longer than I intended. Sorry to anyone reading it who got bored!

Florence

Florence (or Firenze, Florentina and Fiorenza) is the capital city of the Italian region of Tuscany, and of the province of Florence. (Wikipedia)

This perfect example of gorgeousness is my new baby niece, Florence. She was born last week, on 9th July, and she is just perfect! I went to see her for the second time today and got to have a really long cuddle with her. I do feel sorry for Lyla though, it must be strange for her because at least with older children you can explain that a baby is coming and get them prepared, but with Lyla, her mum just went away for a couple of days, and now there's this new baby in the room that everyone is cooing over and wanting to cuddle! So I made sure that I went straight to Lyla when I went into the room, because I don't want her to think that I don't love her anymore! Florence was a much bigger baby than Lyla, and she is completely different in lots of ways, but they are both wonderfully gorgeous and I hope that they will grow up to be best of friends! I am glad for them that they have brothers and a sister each, and it's nice that Lyla and Flo will be so close in age!

It was Sarah's birthday party in the pub last night, and Abbie and I did some karaoke again - this time a song from High School Musical. It was truly awful! For some reason Abbie wan
ted to do it as a duet, instead of just singing it together, which meant that of course I was singing bits on my own! Which is a disaster, as anyone who has ever heard me sing will testify! In the end we just starting singing together, and it wasn't too bad!

I am reading a really good book at the moment, called Thanks for the Memories, by Cecilia Ahern. It's very good and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who likes chick lit with a bit of a twist! I can see it being made into a film, because it's so good! It would nice if they set it in Ireland if they do make it, but I can't see it happening!

Gray's Anatomy

Henry Gray's Anatomy of the Human Body (or Gray's Anatomy as it has commonly been shortened) is an English-language human anatomy textbook widely regarded as a classic work on the subject. (Wikipedia)

As should be fairly obvious from the title of this blog, I am currently watching Grey's Anatomy. (I have decided to make my titles more thematically relevant, rather than just choosing random subjects from Wikipedia) I am watching Series 4 on Youtube, as some fantastic American person has uploaded every episode! They are in about 5 parts, as there is obviously a limit to the length of the clip you can upload, and I should imagine it's completely illegal, but Vicky told me about it the other day and I thought I'd get watching before Youtube decide to remove them! It is very exciting, as it hasn't been shown on British television yet, and when it is it will be on Living first, before Channel 5, and that will be months. So I am doing it this way! And then I will be totally up to date with America, as the new series won't start until September, and hopefully, this wonderful person on Youtube will put the episodes on there as and when they are shown.

I am again displaying my amazingly interesting life by getting so excited about a television programme aren't I? Oh well!

Finally, a quick note to say that it won't be long until Florence is born. I believe she is due on 11th July, which is in 12 days, but apparently she has been engaged for a while so she might come out sooner! Yay! A new niece to add to the two I already have!

Cheadle Hulme

Cheadle Hulme is a suburban area located in the south of Greater Manchester in the North-West of England. (Wikipedia)

So Thursday and Friday saw our annual trip to Alton Towers. I say annual, this is only the second year that we have done it but we have decided to make it an annual trip because it's so much fun. Last year, I wrote in my blog about the funny story regarding the watch that Jenny received from George, that story has passed into folklore and is still told with many a giggle. We also have a story to tell from this year, although this one was less funny at the time. Having said that, it did not take long for me to start laughing, but I think that may have been hysterical laughter.

We had booked to stay in a Bed and Breakfast in a little village called Cheadle, which was about 10 minutes drive from Alton Towers. Using directions printed from the internet, we managed to get onto the M25 only to get lost when I accidentally read the directions as "exit at Junction 17", when it actually said "pass Junction 17". So that was our first accidental detour, which took us onto the A12 and past places like Gidea Park. Anyway, so we managed to get back onto the M25 with the help of Will and a program that V managed to download onto her blackberry, but then, about 5 hours later, I had a sudden realisation that we were heading towards Manchester, and it didn't seem right. So I hazarded a guess that when Anna typed Cheadle into the internet, she hadn't checked that it was Cheadle, Staffordshire. Of course, this is what had happened, it had taken what I can only assume is the bigger or more popular of the two Cheadles, and come up with Cheadle, Cheshire instead. As one can probably imagine, Jen was the least pleased of everyone, especially when we saw a sign stating "You are now entering Manchester". Will thought that we had made a special detour in order to visit the Primark, which would have made it slightly more worth it, but it all turned out OK in the end as it only took us about 50 minutes to get out of Manchester and to the B&B.

Alton Towers itself was fantastic, of course! We bought the Fast Track tickets this time, so we managed to get on Rita, Oblivion, Air, Nemesis and the Flume without queuing for too long. My favourites were Air and Oblivion. We also managed to get on some other things as well because we hadn't queued for too long on the big ones, so if anyone is thinking about going I would definitely recommend the Fast Track tickets!

And I have just realised that I last posted about how I was going to the Ball, and haven't posted since. It was really good, lots of fun but it was so so so so muddy. My feet were so dirty by the end of the evening it was unreal! But I had a good time, and can't wait for next year!

Summer

Summer is a novel by Edith Wharton published in 1917 by Charles Scribner's Sons. (Wikipedia)

It's the Summer Ball at uni tonight. And the weather is seriously awful! Who would have thought that it was June? And Hayley from work is getting married today, so I feel bad for her, cos I am worrying enough about my hair tonight, never mind if I was a bride! Still, if the rain holds off then the photographer will be pleased because my dad always says that this kind of weather is the best for photos, too much sun isn't a good thing! Of course the photographer is the only one thinking like that!

So I have my dress and my shoes (which I hate), both of which are recycled from previous uses, my dress is the one that I wore to the Summer Ball at work last year (the 2nd most horrible work do that I ever went to), and my shoes are a non-descript pair of black strappy heels, which don't fit properly, are too high and are going to get stuck in the mud. But, I couldn't find any that I liked to buy, and I don't really have any money to be spending on new shoes, so I have to wear them.

I have reached the end of Series 3 of House, which is annoying as there is not even a release date for Series 4 on DVD yet. And it's in the middle of its run on Ch5, so I can't start watching it now. Grr! But, I suppose that gives me ample time to watch Sex and the City in it's entirety, because I saw the film and loved it! And I also have to watch CSI Series 8, CSI: NY Series 3 and countless other television shows!

Star jelly

Star jelly, or pwdre sêr, is a compound purportedly deposited on the earth during meteor showers. (Wikipedia)

That sounds so nice, star jelly. But wikipedia goes on to describe it as 'foul-smelling'. Which is a bit gross. Anyway, it's quite late but I didn't wake up today until 12.30 and therefore I don't feel overly tired right now, so I am listening to the Heroes radio show in the hope that they are going to read my email that I sent them regarding my theory about Ellie. If they don't I will be so disappointed, because I have convinced myself that they will! A bit like when I convince myself that I will win the lottery and feel genuinely gutted when not one number comes up.

On Friday night, Anna, Vicky and I went to see Boyzone at the O2 in London. I was never the biggest Boyzone fan when they were around before, it was always Take That and Backstreet Boys for me, but I obviously wasn't going to miss out on a concert with the girls. Besides which, once I actually started listening to their greatest hits, I realised that I actually like most of their stuff. And as it was, I really enjoyed the concert, because they put on a really good show. My only complaint was that it was primarily Ronan singing, and the other 4 acted like his backing singers most of the time, but it was always like that so it was no great surprise. My favourite parts were when they did a Jackson 5 medley, and then when they sang 'A Different Beat', cos that's my favourite Boyzone song. And then they did 'No Matter What' as an encore (which V nearly missed cos she went to the toilet), and came out on a thing hanging from the ceiling over the audience. So that was quite good. All in all I had a good night, and then on Saturday, I went to see Sex and the City with Rob and Anna. Rob, being the rom-com queen that he is, really enjoyed it (especially the naked ladies, no doubt), and so did I. Much more than I expected I would to be honest, because I have never watched so much as a full episode before, but I really fancied seeing the film, so now I feel as though I have to watch the entire back catalogue of episodes! I have them on my Lovefilm rental list now so I will have to wait for them to come to watch them! And, obviously I love Chris Noth, who plays Big. He's just yummy. One of those big men who would completely envelop you in a hug.

They didn't read my email on Heroes. Gutted. But there is always the potential for next week, cos the theory wasn't explored any further in the next episode. I know this because I watched next week's episode already.

Spanish Oral - Done!

This is my first attempt at a post via email, don't know why I need to bother, because chances are if I can access my email I can access the blogger website, but I thought I'd give it a go! It will probably turn out all rubbish and I won't like it so I really don't know why I am bothering.

I had my Spanish oral today and it went OK. I wasn't too nervous about it because I knew it was only going to last about five minutes, and it's hard to get scared about something that is only going to last that long! I recited the passage that I had memorised and then she asked me a few questions, I didn't answer them particularly well because I have an awful range of vocabulary in Spanish, but she said it was fine and that my pronounciation was good, so I am glad about that.

Other than that, all I have been doing today is revising for my History exam. I didn't get as much done as I hoped, but it's still a week away so there's plenty of time (I hope). I also watched an episode of Dirty Sexy Money, which I am loving more and more as the series goes on. I have to confess that the major lure is Donald Sutherland. I know he is totally an old man, and he's really old (72) but I love him. I thought I wasn't going to like him in this, because I thought he was going to be mean, but he seems nice. There's still room for him to be a baddie, it's not quite clear yet, but I like him all the same.

And just as I was about to go to bed, Air Force One has started! BBC One must be having a bit of a Harrison Ford season, cos Indiana Jones was on Sunday night (which I watched for the first time and thought was OK). I love Air Force One. I think it was the first American President film that I watched, so it was the start of my obsession with American politics. Ooh, and I've only just realised that Jim Brass from CSI is in it. I didn't know that, but the last time I watched it was long before I even knew CSI existed.

By the way, American Studies in Spanish is Estudios de los Estados Unidos. What a mouthful. And I had to say 'I study American Studies', which is Estudio estudios de los Estados Unidos. An even bigger mouthful. I'm quite proud of myself for being able to say it though.

Essays are over!

The good news today is that all of my essays for the year are submitted! I handed the last of them in yesterday, and it feels sooooo good. The last one I wrote, my Enlightenment one on Frankenstein, was dreadful, I am fairly sure that to pass it would expecting too much, but it's done, and I'm sure I will get some points just for trying. Now I have to revise loads and try to pass the exam. I can't wait until the day of that exam, because then my life will be Enlightenment-free forever. Unless I fail the year and have to repeat, a scenario I do not want to contemplate.

So I have been playing around with the layout of my blog, to try and make it more reader friendly. I don't know why I bother, cos I don't know that anyone reads it, but I want to keep it going, so when I go to America next year I can update this to let everyone know what I am doing! If anyone cares then either! I;m going to try and add a photo into this blog, just to see how well it works. I don't have photoshop so I am trying to download a program that will let me adjust the size of the photos I want to include, otherwise they will just be too big and huge!

The sun is shining today, so I am going to go to the shops. Strictly speaking I should start revising, but I am giving myself a break because of the hard work I have been putting into my essays over the last week. I will start in earnest tomorrow. I have to start tomorrow, because I have my Spanish oral test on Tuesday and I haven't started preparing for it yet! Oops.

So here goes for the photo:

Three photos actually, of the three of us wearing my Primark sunnies.
