PL Travers

Pamela Lyndon Travers OBE (9 August 1899 - 23 April 1996) was an Australian novelist, actress and journalist , popularly remembered for her series of children's novels about mystical nanny Mary Poppins. (Wikipedia)

I thought it was about time I wrote another blog, because I now know of two more people that are reading my blog. So that takes my readership up to about 5, so I feel I owe it to you all to update more regularly about my largely uninteresting life.

I am currently watching Mary Poppins with Daniela, hence the title of this entry. Daniela has never watched it all the way through, and seeing as I love it, and used to watch it every day before I started school, I thought she just had to see it! The DVD keeps skipping though, which is so
incredibly annoying. My favourite bit is when they go on the roof and sing Step in Time. I don't like the bit on the ceiling, because I don't like Uncle Albert very much.

It's taken me so long to write this post that the film is almost over! I should have spent my time tonight doing my essay or sorting out my Connecticut application, but I am the ultimate procrastinator, and therefore and putting them off to tomorrow.

On Thur
sday night I went to see Oliver! in London, with Rowan Atkinson playing Fagin. It was so brilliant! Rowan was amazing, the best Fagin I've ever seen. I thought that I was going to see Hugh Laurie there, because I thought that he would go and see Rowan, because they are old friends. Alas, he was not. But that did not detract from how good it was! It wasn't Jodie playing Nancy either, but I wasn't worried, because the girl who did play her was one of the final ten Nancies, and I really liked her. She was very good. And the boy who played the Artful Dodger was ever so good too. We saw Lawrence as Oliver, I was hoping to see Gwion cos I wanted to see how his Welsh accent was worked in, but Lawrence was very good too.

Last night we went out for Richard's birthday, it was Disney/Superheroes Flirt at uni, so we all got dressed up and went out. I dressed as Minnie Mouse, I borrowed Abbie's dress and ears, and thought I looked good if I do say so myself! We all looked good though, Daniela went as Wonder Woman, Hannah as Cruella De Vil, Samm as the Mad Hatter, and Richard as Woody. Anna and Rob came as well, Anna was Batgirl and Rob was a very convincing Jack Sparrow. It was a good night, even though the music in Subzero was pretty rubbish. I like the cheesy tunes, but this was all hardcore dance stuff.

I also like the end of Mary Poppins. It used to make me sad, because I didn't like the fact that Mary left. It was the same with Pete's Dragon, I didn't like it that Elliot left. Obviously as a grown up I recognise that they are both there to help the children through their difficulties, and then they have to go off and help someone else. In Nanny McPhee, which has a similar moral to it, she says "There is something you should understand about the way I work. When you need me but do not want me, then I must stay. When you want me but no longer need me, then I have to go." I like that film too, even if Emma Thompson looks disgusting in the beginning.

The film has ended, and so I must depart. I will be back soon, hopefully.
